Vesper Public Relations. Wednesday September 8, 2010. Los Angeles welcomes the 200th anniversary of Mexicoâ€™s independence in 2010 with the return of the oldest and largest Hispanic parade in the country: The Grand Bicentennial Parade & Festival, presented by the ComitÃ© Mexicano CÃvico PatriÃ³tico, the oldest Hispanic civic organization in the country, to be held on Sunday, September 12, 2010 starting at 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Hosting the ceremony will be Community Relations Consul of Mexico Vanessa Calva, actor, musician, and comedian Fernando Arau, and television anchor Gabriela Tessier who will receive a special recognition.
On this special landmark occasion The Grand Bicentennial Parade & Festival will be televised in part by ABC Ch. 7, a historic accomplishment for a Hispanic event in the city of Los Angeles.
This year, the world commemorates Mexicoâ€™s bicentennial anniversary of independence from Spain and its establishment as a sovereign nation, which coincides with the 100th year anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, another milestone in the history of the country. The parade stands as a symbol of union and joy, having gathered hundreds of thousands of participants and attendees each year and expecting to do so again this year, with this monumental reason to celebrate Hispanic Heritage.
The historic festivities include the renowned Spanish tenor and conductor PlÃ¡cido Domingo as this yearâ€™s Grand Marshal, as well as the participation of designer RaÃºl R. RodrÃguez, who joined forces with the Bicentennial Mexican Independence Parade to create five floats that will feature Mexicoâ€™s rich history and culture.

The dog behavioral specialist and best-selling author Cesar MillÃ¡n, star of â€œDog Whisperer with Cesar MillÃ¡nâ€, a hit Emmy nomination television show that airs on the National Geographic Channel and in 100 countries. A native of Mexico, MillÃ¡n is a world-renown pop culture icon whose talent to â€œrehabilitate dogs and train humansâ€ has resulted in six books, a hit TV show, a magazine, a dog psychology & rehabilitation center, and numerous celebrity clients like Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith and Daisy Fuentes amongst others. Cesar will be honored at the paradeâ€™s kick-off banquet at The Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on September 11, 2010.
Block buster film and television actor Danny Trejo whose prolific career has lead him to acting alongside some of Hollywoodâ€™s most famous actors including Jean-Claude Van Damme,Â Johnny Depp,Â Al Pacino,Â Nicolas Cage,Â Charles Bronson,Â George Clooney,Â John Malkovich,Â Robert De Niro,Â Harrison Ford,Â Val Kilmer, andÂ Antonio Banderas. Major releases include his latest film â€œMacheteâ€.
Mexican living legend film star, actor Jorge Rivero who is also a world class athlete will be participating. The star of classics like â€œBellas de Nocheâ€, â€œIndioâ€, â€œEl Payoâ€, and â€œEl Rey de los TahÃºresâ€ as well as American films such as: â€œKilling Machineâ€ and â€œTarget Eagleâ€, among others.Â Rivero will be honored for his illustrious 45-year film career at the paradeâ€™s kick-off gala banquet at The Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on September 11, 2010.
The film, television and comedy legend Eduardo Manzano will also join the celebration. Manzano garnered recognition in the 60s and 70s as one half of the comedic duo â€˜Los Polivocesâ€™ later made into a TV show that was syndicated throughout Latin America. The Mexican comedian continues to delight the public at 71 years of age through the TV show â€œHazme Reir y Seras Millonarioâ€.
Other participants include actor and singer Lorenzo Negrete, the grandson of Mexican icon Jorge Negrete, Â direct from the South of France, Mario Reyes, known as “The Gipsy Man,” a guitar virtuoso citizen of the world, performing with super star artists such as: Andrea Bocelli and Sting to name only a few. The magical talent of Mario Reyes has appeared on U.S. television on the renowned soap opera “El Clon,” with his theme music.
Emerging recording artists Cesar Brizuela, whose charm and rhythms are conquering the world of Regional Mexican music, the Regional Mexican banda recording songstress Yolanda PÃ©rez and international Venezuelan teen sensation singer song writer, Yesy Milano, will also participate.
As part of the celebration, joining us will be Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa, Juan Marcos GutiÃ©rrez (General Consul of Mexico), Sergio Tinoco (President of ComitÃ© Mexicano CÃvico PatriÃ³tico), JosÃ© Huizar (Council member 14th District), Gloria Molina (L.A. In honor of the Mexican Bicentennial celebration in Los Angeles, we will have the presence of members of the heroic Mexican Expeditionary Force 201st Fighter Squadron. â€˜El Escuadron 201â€™ or the Aztec Eagles as they were also known, was a group of 300 Mexican pilots and support personnel that served in the Philippines who participated in combat missions against the Japanese Imperial Army. Also, representatives of the city of Guadalajara Mexico will be in attendance to promote the 16th Pan American Games to be hosted in that city on October 2011.
Lastly Avocados from Mexico will make a generous donation to White Memorial Medical Center (WMMC), -a non-profit hospital which provides a full range of services to communities in and near downtown Los Angeles- , that will fund two new sessions of WMMC Center for Diabetesâ€™ Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program (HELP), a pediatric obesity management program. The program is designed to help children between ages 5-12 and their families to adopt healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Also in representation of Mattel AndrÃ©s AmÃ©zquita Vice President of E- Commerce and Graciela G. Meibar, Vice President of Global Sales Training and Global Diversity will be present.
The parade will take place at N. Indiana Street and E. Cesar Chavez Avenue, ending in Belvedere Park. The celebration will continue at the park with a mariachi festival, music, entertainment, attractions, food vendors, merchandise and fun for the whole family.
